Partners for Plants at Keney Park
The Garden Club of Hartford, with a grant from The Garden Club of America’s Partners for Plants program and in collaboration with the city of Hartford’s Department of Public Works, is sponsoring a student design competition for the Olmsted Brothers-designed Keney Park in Hartford. The project consists of conceptual designs for five park entrances and an implementable design for the park’s Barbour Street entrance.
An important goal of this project is to develop a model for restoring native, pollinator-attractive plantings in a design that is historically and environmentally sound and appropriate, while responsibly managing invasive and/or rare and endangered species in the focus area. In an ongoing effort at the Barbour Street entrance, The Garden Club of Hartford is already working to identify native and rare plants for preservation and invasive ones for removal.
